No trip to London is complete without a visit to Westminster Abbey. There are always discreet nooks where another royal or poet is interred; history is beneath your feet. On my last visit, I went to The Confessor’s chapel to admire the impressive bronze tomb of Edward III (1327-77). His dignified and peaceful face made me realize how bronze blurs the distinctions between the permanence of love and the impermanence of the natural body. What a perfect sentiment to incorporate into our memorial boxes.
